Mouth herpes
Oral herpes, also known as cold sores, brought on by the HSV1 virus and is marked by sores and blisters on the lips and mouth, sometimes extending to throat. Mouth herpes is the most common form of all herpes and is most often caused when one has direct contact with the infected area. An interesting fact is that up to 90% of people who have oral herpes are unaware of disease, because there are often no symptoms at all.
Sometimes mouth herpes can be very painful and very uncomfortable. Herpes symptoms usually appear within a week and last for a few days or even weeks. Sores are often red or yellow in color. They grow large and spread over the lips and mouth. This is called a herpes outbreak. Herpes outbreaks may reoccur. This happens under stressful situations, or when the immune system is otherwise compromised.
Other signs of disease may include headache, fever, and muscle pain. Usually these reactions will disappear within a few weeks.
There is no cure for herpes, but there are many helpful treatments. They include different gels, sprays and creams that have the strength needed to kill some of the infection and reduce sores.
Remember, even when you don’t see any symptoms of oral herpes it is still in your body.
